” Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another. “
Apostle Paul (Romans 13:8)
The word ‘ Iris ‘ is derived from a Greek goddess who rode rainbows of many colors. The Iris is a perennial which is hardy and beautiful. It is found in some 300 species with the Iris germanica being the most appreciated due to its taller size and bearded petals. The dew-laden, purple, semi-translucent petals of this Iris are especially appealing to me. Beware, though, as Iris’
spread rather rapidly if not kept under control. ” Nature never did betray the heart that loves her. ”
William Wordsworth , poet (1798)
The waterfalls below are part of KRKA National Park in Croatia. Along with the adjacent old town of Skradinski buk, this site is an absolutely stunning place to visit. We were fortunate enough to explore this part of Europe a couple of years ago.

Stairway to Heaven (song by Led Zeppelin,1971) or Kukulkan Pyramid at Chitchen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico? Pyramid, of course, but the Mayans may have thought it was a spiritual stairway to heaven. Kukulkan was designated one of the Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. This pyramid and entire temple complex is an amazing city-state of the ancient Mayan culture. There are other similar complexes throughout Mexico and Central America where ancient cultures once thrived, although Chitchen Itza is one of the larger de-forested complexes from these ancient civilizations (Mayan & Aztec).
” Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future for it is yet to come. Live in the present and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering. ” Author Unknown, but similar expressions of the same concept can be found from multiple sources, including the Bible.
In a world that is ever-changing, and as America has become globalized, let us not forget our past…the ideals and acts that bonded our nation together and galvanized us during the greatest threats to our sovereignty as a country. This thought is not for America alone, but for all nations who value freedom and seek peace and prosperity for her people. It is good and necessary to become more integrated with other nations, but let us not lose our identity in the process.
I have learned all too well that I am prone to being anxious about what is next up for me in this game of life. I don’t get too concerned about the day to day things, but more about big picture things such as career choices, relocating to another home, dealing with confrontation, and even discerning God’s will. So, when I heard this quote in a talk a few years ago it resonated with me. Perhaps it will provide you with some comfort and peace regardless of the cause of anxiety. BTW, I am waiting for my 1960 Corvette!
